BuddhaNexus was an open source initiative to create infrastructure for the computational discovery of Pāli, Sanskrit, Tibetan, and Chinese Buddhist literature.
The first steps towards a codebase started as a collaboration between Ven. Ayya Vimala and Sebastian Nehrdich in 2019. The early version benefited heavily from the codebase and ecosystem of SuttaCentral, to which we would like to express our deep gratitude. Joined with additional support by the Khyentse Center for Tibetan Buddhist Textual Scholarship, the interactive intertextuality discovery platform BuddhaNexus was made available at https://buddhanexus.net in August 2020.
The version maintained by the Khyentse Center for Tibetan Buddhist Textual Scholarship is based on a version of the codebase from summer 2022 and has since not been updated.
Active development of the platform has since moved to the successor DharmaNexus, which features:
- A completely reworked and improved algorithmic stack
- Multilingual textual matches across all languages
- A sophisticated semantic search system with extensive filter capabilities
DharmaNexus is deeply integrated into the Dharmamitra ecosystem and is an integral part of the MITRA Search and MITRA Deep Research tools.
