Hi there, I'm Daniel Xie

Robotics Enthusiast | Embedded Systems Developer | PCB Designer

Iโ€™m an engineering student passionate about building things that move, light up, and think. My work focuses on autonomous systems, flight dynamics, and hardware-software integration. Whether it's designing custom PCBs for drones or coding inverse kinematics for hexapods, I love bridging the gap between code and the physical world.

A six-legged robot capable of autonomous navigation and object manipulation.

  • Brain: Raspberry Pi Zero 2W performing motion planning & CV.
  • Tech: Inverse Kinematics, Computer Vision, TCP/IP Telemetry.
  • Cool Factor: Autonomously detects and recycles water bottles! โ™ป๏ธ

A simulation environment for validating UAV autopilot firmware without leaving the ground.

  • Core: MATLAB Simulink + QUARC interfacing with Raspberry Pi.
  • Function: Spoofs sensor data (IMU, GPS) to test ZeroPilot firmware.
  • Impact: Enables closed-loop testing of flight control algorithms without crash risks.

A custom-designed wearable developed from scratch.

  • Hardware: ESP32 MCU, 16-bit ADC, Laser Driver, Gyro/Accel.
  • Design: Compact 4-layer PCB designed in KiCad.
  • Features: LiPo power management & custom 3D-printed enclosure.

A modular smart home display with embedded lighting control.

  • System: Raspberry Pi 4 + IR Touchscreen.
  • Lighting: Custom WS2812B LED driver circuit.
  • Interface: Python-based UI for toggling info displays and "Mirror Mode".

  • Developed a 12S Precharge/Antispark module handling 200A loads for the team's flagship hexacopter.
  • Designed a RTK Base Station with automated Windows boot sequencing and backup power for 1cm GPS precision.

  • Solved voltage drop issues in CCTV/Sonar subsystems with custom battery units.
