A UK Train Set addon (newGRF) for OpenTTD, aiming to replicate UK rail (train and tram) rolling stock from the entire history of the British Railway Network
With a focus on real-world consists and liveries, this set is unashamedly real-world-first with an aim to be able to recreate the UK rail network in game. If it's ever run on the UK network, we probably either have it or intend to soon. If you find something missing you love, let us know in Discord on TT-Forums - requests tend to jump to the top of the queue
Grab the latest release from the in-game content downloader.
Alternatively get it from the releases page and copy it into your OpenTTD/newGRF folder (usually in your Documents folder)
- Python 3 (3.14 or later is recommended, earlier versions should work but aren't tested)
nmlPython package, available viapipor from the OpenTTD Github
To build the grf, run build.py:
python build.pyOr optionally
python build.py --grf-name brtrainsv2The build script collates .pnml files into a single .nml file as required by the nmlc nml compiler. It then compiles the .nml file into a .grf. By default these files will be brtrainsv2.nml and brtrainsv2.grf, but an alternate filename can be passed in as above
The script will attempt to automatically copy the resulting .grf file into the user's Documents folder on Windows (including OneDrive/Documents if required) or MacOS
