The only real change in this PR is to the docstring for specimen_id
A bunch of lint changes showed up here -- I think that
blackchanged their rule for how spaces work in docstrings...? We could pin to an older version but I think best practice is just to update... At some point I will move this repo over to ruff which doesn't do this.
