The inet_protocols parameter is necessary to fix a bug with postfix when ip6 has been disabled on a server. The following blog describes the necesary changes. http://truemetal.org/universe/blog/2013/03/disable-ipv6-on-linux-centos/
The reason is that version 3.0.0+ errors if this depricted variable is used.
