Making it real

Dynamic states can be difficult to communicate.
- Sketch/Invision is a limited tool for this
- Sketch isn’t built for interactions
- Sometimes have to point to examples on other sites
- Hard to visualize
Prototyping is important but time consuming — and the tools aren’t great.
- Invision is a necessary evil
- Forces designs down “happy paths” — which aren’t always realistic real-world scenarios
- Building dynamism from static pages is time consuming, for debatable benefit
“We prototyped very small happy paths that didn’t account for everything.”
There isn’t a simple consistent technique to address design needs once the design is in code.
- Designers can’t always modify code themselves
- Resort to techniques like annotating screenshots in Photoshop
