Description
I like to preserve the "metadata" that is (usually) a part of the tar file's name when downloaded
for example, for eget, the download tar for my system is "eget-1.3.4-linux_amd64.tar.gz" . it would be nice if there as an option for the extracted binary to preserve this name - eget-1.3.4-linux_amd64 .
(what I really want is just to preserve the version - eget-1.3.4 - but every project has their own quirks with versioning and that seems to big a task)
my motivation for this is that I like to keep one or two past versions hanging around just in case the new one doesn't work - I then end up setting up a ln for eget to the most recent version after downloading the new one
