Have an "optional" dependency for monolog and if installed and implemented, make the error messages pipe to the an instantiated object that implements the psr-3 log interface.

Instead tie to a vendor, why not to write on something that implements PSR-3?

Makes sense. Can still suggest monolog, but just have a dependency injection for a logger interface that we define.

From monolog readme:

This library implements the PSR-3 interface that you can type-hint against in your own libraries to keep a maximum of interoperability. You can also use it in your applications to make sure you can always use another compatible logger at a later time.

And their composer package requires psr/log project, which means they just implement psr-3 :)
