Call for contributors

The issue of expanding the contributors base is a bit thorny and I am probably the one who feels less the need to... but I think we all agree that we need to gain some visibility.

I therefore came up with some ideas, which will probably be all vetoed :) but hey, we might want to discuss the following:

1. http://collabfinder.com/ : not sure if it suits us but might have some reaching
2. Preparing a presentation, with prezi or similar software and go to speak at each conference that will allow us. A lot of meetups / conferences are more than welcoming lightning talks about subject that are not necessarily programming-related (es: PHPLondon, LondonAjax, or the recent Hack Day at the O2, etc etc)
3. Have our own meetup on meetup. It's not very expensive and it seems an easy way to gain visibility quickly (I have friendly relationships with organizers that might give us a hand to spread the word)
4. To man an IRC channel (or something similar) on a regular basis
5. We have a lot of common ground with other projects like Diaspora. What if we contacted someone from them?
6. A blog. Non-programmers are not on github.

At the risk of being too prescriptive in the 'search for collaborators' I'd like to offer up this list of roles that could definitely benefit the development of Yip:

For planning/development:

• Web UX Designer
• System Admin (Linux Pro)
• Web Application Security Experts
• DB Architect

For advice:

• Generalists & Enthusiasts
• Web/Software Copyright Lawyer(s)

Good idea, though I'm wary of timing and splitting focus. Right now having 100 people excited won't speed up the dev process. I'd rather focus on ramping up development. I think running a meetup or presi is a lot of work that may be best left for when everything's more matured. I personally feel that more intimate garnering of interests is in need -- And on that note, I'm going to ramp up my own efforts to get interest "in real life" (sounds scary!).

I'm also not sure how responsive an audience will be to what could be seen as a glorified napkin idea? ... I'd much rather have something, anything, solid to show them...

A pity they don't have any upcoming meetups - I 've been to a few and they are pretty good.

Ok for going ahead and developing something before "recruiting". Except for the designer / UX person: we could use one straight away. If we can spare any human resourcing effort, it should be really be directed toward finding them, imho.
