Slot doesnt reset when removing spool

Im new to Spoolease so it may be that I dont fully understand the intended functionality. When removing a tagged spool from the AMS i can see that the Spoolease console recognises this and untags it from the slot, however it doesnt automatically reset the slot to empty. i have to do that manually.

The slot does show as empty - instead of check it shows a hyphen.

What isn't cleared is the color and material and that's because the printer still remembers that. If you load a spool again even without SpoolEase that's how the printer will think it is without you telling it what it is. That's why SpoolEase present it that way.

It is different from BambuStudio. BambuStudio doesn't show it, that's why you think it should be without material/color but it has that color and that material in the printer memory. You can check that with Bambu Studio without SpoolEase to verify the behavior.

Maybe I should remove this to avoid confusion, it just helps sometimes knowing what the printer think is in the slot.

Interesting. Isn't the printer aware of what is and isn't in a slot? For example if I load a blue filament into slot one and then unload it and load it straight into slot two, Spall Ease now shows me that I've got a blue filament in both slots but slot one is untagged. Are you saying the printer thinks that it's got filament in both slot one and slot two now?

The printer knows if there is or isn't a spool loaded. That's represented in SpoolEase UI with the signs v or -.

The printer also has a color and material configured to a slot. This is shown in SpoolEase but NOT in Bambu Studio.

You mix the spool in/out with color/material. These are two different things.

So the printer can have (1) spool loaded and know the color, or (2) spool loaded and not know the color or (3) spool not loaded and know the color or (4) spool not loaded and not know color.

SpoolEase displays all these options.

Bambu Studio - when no spool loaded it doesn't display the color.

Play a bit by unloading and loading spool and you will see how when you configure a green spool with a spool loaded, then unload it - Bambu will show as if there is no color, the load without configuring a red spool (just not Bambu spool) and magic - Bambu will show you the slot is green from what the printer remembered.

The Spool Id of SpoolEase is managed by SpoolEase so it is yet another configuration that can live with all options above, depending on the slot etc. it's too complex to go through all combinations.

Btw - external spool Bambu also behaves differently more similar to SpoolEase, you can configure color without a spool loaded.

Okay! I think that makes sense! I guess from my perspective now I’ve got spool ease and I use it every time I load a spool - spool ease should show me what is in the AMS now, not was or what the printer thinks there is. If I’ve taken out a spool, clear the slot, because when I look at the AMS…. There is no spool :)

I understand and it makes sense. I've been thinking about switching to that way of thinking many times, will rethink this.

But it does look more colorful this way 🙂
