update cattledb to use protobuf v4

We tried to update cattledb to use protobuf version 4 but we ran into some issues with the tests, where we do not exactly know, why they happened (too less values where returned in the timeseries tests).

It would be great, if you update the code to use protobuf version 4.

I am trying to figure out what version of protobuf makes sense to support ...
Protobuf is used by google-cloud-bigtable and google-cloud-core to access bigtable.
They require google-api-core. It seems like most recent versions of this is 2.11 at Pypi: https://pypi.org/project/google-api-core/
They have quite specific requirements for protobuf version:
"protobuf>=3.19.5,<5.0.0dev,!=3.20.0,!=3.20.1,!=4.21.0,!=4.21.1,!=4.21.2,!=4.21.3,!=4.21.4,!=4.21.5",
Seems like there are very specific versions that are excluded (probably because they have issues).

Are you trying to install a specific version (4.x.x) of protobuf ? What is the version of the google apis that you are using/need to use? Is there a specific reason to require specific version of protobuf or is it a requirement of the google apis (and if so what is their version)?
