Describe the bug
WG Tunnel produces dramatically lower throughput compared to the official WireGuard Android app using the identical tunnel configuration and server. The issue appears to be device-specific — tested on two Samsung devices simultaneously with the same config and the problem only occurs on the Z Fold 6.
Speed comparison (same server, same config, same network):
Official WireGuard app (Z Fold 6): ~400 Mbps
WG Tunnel (Z Fold 6): ~70–80 Mbps
WG Tunnel (Samsung Galaxy S23): No issue, normal speeds
Steps to reproduce
Import identical WireGuard config into both WG Tunnel and official WireGuard app
Run a speed test with each app on a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6
Observe ~5x lower throughput in WG Tunnel
Expected behavior
Throughput should be roughly comparable to the official WireGuard app under the same conditions.
Troubleshooting already attempted
Fresh install + reimport of config
Tested on both WiFi and cellular — issue present on both
MTU adjusted (1280, 1420) — no improvement
Split tunneling: disabled
Kill switch / Lockdown mode: disabled
Dynamic DNS handling: disabled
Samsung Intelligent WiFi features reviewed and toggled — no improvement
Battery optimization disabled for WG Tunnel
Device info
Device: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6
Android Version: Latest available
One UI Version: Latest available
App Version: Latest (Play Store)
Backend: Userspace (not rooted)
Additional context
The Samsung Galaxy S23 running the same version of WG Tunnel with the same config does not exhibit this issue. This suggests something specific to the Z Fold 6's network stack or hardware is interacting poorly with WG Tunnel's VPN implementation.
