Can't use extend with a template defined variable

If I pass the variable "layout" as context I can use:

{{extend layout}}

but i can't:

{{layout = 'file.tpl'}}
{{extend layout}}

It says that layout is not defined

Not a bug. Simply the feature is not supported at this time. If you can add without performance penalty (in particular in the cache of cached templates) I am include it.
