gpl doesnt cover hardware

The GPL license is a software license.. I would recommend changing it to one that supports hardware such as creative commons https://creativecommons.org/share-your-work/ or TAPR open hardware license https://www.tapr.org/ohl.html

GPL can be used for any software that your hardware runs though..
