Science Team meeting updates

• IS2 researchers will be competing more broadly with other NASA communities for funding in 2025 (if/when the 2025 ROSES call is finally released).
• Could the cookbook be tweaked to increase the chances of future funding for IS2? For example, it might help to show we are attending to the needs of people beyond cryo?
• for example, Ben: his research focus will be broader in the future (earth sciences in general, rather than just glaciology)

Tutorial Considerations

• Michalea - Do the categories need to be broad or more niche? Beyond glaciology?
• Anthony - Look at workflows that may extend beyond glaciology for other domains. In the future we might reshuffle how we lay out the tutorials, but for now let's continue forward with the cryo focus.

• Michalea - Conda packaging considerations // suggest pinging Ian to assess what packages are being most actively developed
• Ben - working on his data filtering tutorial and will try Earthaccess and compare with SlideRule approach
• Anthony - helping Ben on various tasks

Michalea

• Contacted Ian, waiting for his response
• investigated the Conda implementation and skeleton (https://docs.conda.io/projects/conda-build/en/stable/user-guide/tutorials/build-pkgs-skeleton.html), which would be a solution if grimp is already on PiPi.
• should we ensure that our packages align with the requirements in Pythia, e.g. Conda Forge compatibility?

• outreach to campus catering and conference services to check in on the event details
• finalized the RSVP email for participants

Ben

• Explored improving data access methods: tried earthaccess and notes that they don't have a way to do subsetting, so you have to download the entire granule. In the example case he's building, that means a track that extends quite far outside the area of interest. This is inefficient.
• Next used SlideRule. https://client.slideruleearth.io/ Note their new web client is amazing! He zoomed in to an ROI, made a bounding box, got a list of tracks, and was able to click on each one to assess quality. Then he took the scripting parameters over to Python and continued accessing data there.
