Hi Brian,
I took this project and carried on where I found it, fixing some of the problems you had signalled. I think I turned it into the start of a real programming environment for the M5Core2. In the process, I created [I2C Manager] which does thread-safe I2C and many other things.
You may want to have a look at the whole thing and browse through the components I modified and created.
I'd be happy to hear what you think...
