TypeError: a bytes-like object is required, not 'str'

I have been using this wonderful program for a while and unfortunately encountered problems with the update to BigSur and Python 3. Which is apparently oversensitive when it comes to string / byte handling.

I'm far from a Python kneader but will try to fix it. But I can need some help, do you have a solution / fix to the problem.
