BG3ModStudio 1.0.10 removes the dependency on RAD Game Tools’ granny2.dll by introducing a fully integrated, open-source BitKnit2 decompressor written in modern C++.
GR2 models used by Baldur’s Gate 3, including BitKnit2-compressed assets, can now be viewed out of the box without requiring any proprietary runtime components. The implementation handles the full BitKnit2 decoding pipeline (including multi-quantum streams) and is integrated directly into the existing GR2 loading and rendering path.
This change simplifies installation, improves portability, and keeps BG3ModStudio fully self-contained while preserving existing GR2 viewing functionality on supported hardware.
As always, all indexing and asset processing operates only on data from a user’s locally installed copy of Baldur’s Gate 3.
