logitech receiver - won't pair - hack available? #16

Hi I bought a logitech combo k270 (keyboard and mouse) K270 keyboard and m185 mouse. They came without the nano receiver because the person I bought them from had their laptop stolen about 2 weeks after they bought the keyboard/mouse, and the receiver was in the laptop. I have bought a replacement receiver with the same part number (non-unifying nano receiver C-U0010). I haven't yet managed to persuade the receiver to pair with the mouse or keyboard. I have read online that these devices come pre-paired and that what I am trying to do is impossible. I run windows 10 at home and Windows 7 at work. Is there a way for me to pair these devices or have I wasted my money? It seems to me that if you guys can't help me, no-one can!
