Milestone: M7 - Smart AI Card Operations (In Progress) Summary: Implemented full AI card CRUD operations. AI can now add, update, and delete cards via natural language. Fixed accuracy bug where AI showed correct reasoning but output wrong answer. Completed:

  • New smartCardOperations() function with add/update/delete support
  • API processes operations and returns detailed breakdown
  • Summary popup shows cards added/updated/deleted with reasons
  • Added "ACCURACY IS NON-NEGOTIABLE" prompt instruction Key Decisions:
  • Keep single textbox UX - AI determines intent from instructions
  • Pass all existing cards with IDs so AI can reference specific cards

Milestone: Post-M6 Enhancements Summary: Fixed critical Vercel timeout bug, added smart AI features (intent detection, deck naming), and improved study mode UX Completed:

  • Fixed Vercel deployment protection blocking API calls (disabled via API)
  • Replaced Anthropic SDK with raw fetch (fixes serverless timeout issue)
  • Switched to Haiku model for faster serverless responses
  • Added edit button to flashcards during study mode
  • AI now generates deck name when not provided
  • Smart AI with intent detection (generate cards vs suggest name vs both)
  • Summary popup modal after AI generation with stats
  • Suggested deck name UI integrated into popup with Apply/Skip buttons Key Decisions:
  • Raw fetch instead of Anthropic SDK (SDK had connection issues in Vercel serverless)
  • Haiku model for speed (Sonnet was timing out on Hobby tier)

Milestone: M6 - Unified Deck Creation + UX Fixes Summary: Complete UX audit → scoped M6 → implemented unified deck creation with instructions-first approach + critical UX fixes Completed:

  • Ran comprehensive UI/UX audit via subagent
  • Redesigned "Create New Deck" page (instructions-first, file optional)
  • Updated /api/generate to support new deck creation
  • Added success toast to edit deck AI generation
  • Added exit button to study mode
  • Added "Back to Decks" button on session complete Key Decisions:
  • Bundled UX audit fixes with unified deck creation into single milestone
  • Instructions textarea always visible, file upload secondary

Milestone: M5 - Upload Enhancements & Prompt Config Summary: Complete M5 with additional instructions, options page, and post-M5 enhancement for always-visible AI generation Completed:

  • Additional instructions textarea on upload (new + existing decks)
  • Options page at /options with AI prompt editor (view/edit/reset to default)
  • Settings gear icon on home page
  • Always-visible AI generation section on edit page (Boss request)
  • Instructions-only generation (file now optional)

  • Custom prompts stored in localStorage (simple, no DB change needed)

Milestone: M1, M2, M3 - All Complete Summary: Tested and verified M1 (upload flow), M2 (study mode), built and tested M3 (stats & organization) Completed:

  • M1: PDF/TXT/MD upload with AI flashcard generation
  • M2: Card flip, progress bar, SRS, session summary, restart
  • M3: Stats bar (streak/accuracy), deck deletion, per-deck accuracy Key Decisions:
  • Deck editing deferred to M4 as future feature
  • Study streak based on flashcard activity timestamps Committed: 1f4e7cc, 341dd5e, a32394e Next Focus: M4 - Deck Editing (rename decks, edit/delete individual cards)

Milestone: M1 - File Upload & AI Generation Summary: Major implementation work on M1 - enhanced upload flow with AI-powered content analysis Completed: None (work in progress, code uncommitted) Key Decisions:

  • Added content type detection, topic extraction, coverage assessment
  • Built UploadResult component with AI analysis display
  • Added "add more to deck" flow and question-sheet answer generation Committed: e9b056e Next Focus: Test upload flow in browser, verify M1 test criteria, run DB migration if needed
