I am not sure whether this is a related issue, but the compiler crashes with the following program:

(def x (var intern (p char) (p+ (nullptr char) 1)))

I think the new issue is related to #207, any pointer returned by an initializer will cause the referenced memory to be read and used in the compile result.

Yep, that's right, but this issue (and #207) have highlighted some more problems with how global pointer variables are initialised. These should be fixable, so I'll reopen this as a placeholder for them.
