Qestion about r

Hello, I have been studying your paper Improving Semi-Supervised Learning for Remaining Useful recently
Lifetime Estimation Through Self-Supervision; I don't understand parts of it; In 3.3.2. Definition of the Pre-Text Task; It is mentioned to calculate the relative RUL value r, where the time series k and l are assumed to be the same; My question is do we calculate relative r from the same device or from different devices? If it's a different device their time series length k and l shouldn't be the same. I hope you can answer my questions in your spare time, and thank you very much for your wonderful paper.

I am assuming you read the arxiv version of the paper. The official journal version has a better explanation. It is open access, so you can read it for free.
