Notifications does not work on physical Android device

My notifications works perfectly on iOS.

However, on Android (permission configured as suggested) I got following results:
On simulator:
Notifications work, however they only work as, I think, silent notifications. A circle appears on top of the screen and if I pull down I see the notification.
On a physical Pixel 6:
No notifications at all

On requesting notification permission, Allow / Deny pop-up is displayed correctly, and I select allow. Later, notification settings for my app correctly displays as enabled.

Some progress.

It seems like a trimming issue as described here https://github.com/thudugala/Plugin.LocalNotification/wiki/Frequently-Asked-Questions

However, suggested TrimmerRootAssembly fails to build, requiring a RootMode specification. I am still looking into this.
In short, if I side load the a debug build to physical device, notifications work.

Still trying to understand how I can make notifications pop up, instead of quietly adding a marker at the top of the screen.
