Search engine indexing

Hoping the community might be able to help me with a Quire query. I've realised that my sites have dropped off of Google as they have a "no index, no follow" meta tag.

I can’t work out how to remove the tag – in v0 there seemed to be a control to set that, but there doesn't appear to be any documentation for v1.

I would also like to submit XML sitemaps to Google Search Console to speed up indexing. A PR to build a sitemap was merged earlier this year (#1000) but I can't see the sitemap file output in my builds. Is there something I need to toggle on in config?

Hi @brutaldigital, for the meta tag issue, we've removed the configuration for it altogether in v1 and fixed the issue with "noindex, nofollow" still being added to site files in a more recent release. You can update your project by going to _includes/components/head.js file and changing <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow"/> to <meta name="robots" content="index, follow"/>, or just removing it altogether.

For the sitemap, can you run quire info --debug in your project and supply the results here so we can test it?

For the sitemap, your version of Quire predates our addition of the sitemap feature. However, I don't think it will be too difficult for you to add to your project manually. You can see the pull request where we added it to core Quire here: https://github.com/thegetty/quire/pull/1000/files. There are three things you'll need to do in your project:

1. Add a new _plugins/sitemap/index.js file, which you can copy and paste from that PR
2. Add the sitemap plugin to your package.json file: "@quasibit/eleventy-plugin-sitemap": "^2.2.0"
3. Call the plugin from your .eleventy.js file (you'll see in the PR that there are two lines that need to be added)
