How can i get accurate gap / position data throughout the lap? (i am still new to this so sorry if its stupid i am still learning)

i want to show accurate gap changes in the live client i am currently testing through a websocket live server so i can simulate live sessions for testing but i just cant get accurate gap data do i need to calculate it or is it readily available and if i need to calculate it how ?
