Description
Here are a few suggestions of interesting data sources in the area of public finance that could be included into swissdata:
In particular, the Federal Tax Administration has a large number of annually updated Excel sheets with statistics from the federal income tax. The data is very informative and used regularly, but cumbersome to use. The data include:
- taxable income sum, number of taxpayers, and total taxes paid by income bracket
- net income sum (Reineinkommen / revenu net), number of taxpayers, and total taxes paid by income bracket
- moments of the distribution and inequality measures
- all results available for CH / by canton / by municipality
- annually, starting as early as 1947 for some data (but old data only available as scanned PDF)

Similarly, the ESTV publishes statistics from the cantonal wealth taxes :
- wealth tabulations by wealth bracket for all cantons
- annually since 2003, random years before

Annual budgets for cantons and municipalities:

- Here you may want to check with Florian Chatagny (EFV, previously KOF) and Marko Köthenbürger where they are with their plans to set up a database with these data for research.
I hope you'll find this input helpful!
