Material component properties edited in the inspector are not updated in corresponding HTML file

My intention is to change, for example
<a-entity id="updateMe" position="-0.98 2.71 -3.61" rotation="0 25 0" geometry="" material="color: red"></a-entity>
to instead have a blue color by editing the value in the visual inspector, resulting in
<a-entity id="updateMe" position="-0.98 2.71 -3.61" rotation="0 25 0" geometry="" material="color: blue"></a-entity>.

However saving this change to my HTML file via aframe-watcher appears not to work. For what it is worth, live changes with aframe-watcher to position/rotation appear to work.

I am using src="https://aframe.io/releases/1.1.0/aframe.min.js" in my script element
