Custom barcodes for custom foods

First of all, I absolutely adore your app! Also thank you very much for making it so easy to selfhost, people like you make the internet a wonderful place <3.

I meal prep a lot and would love to have a custom barcode for custom meals I make, and have the ability to add them really quickly just by scanning said barcode. I have tried to do it by scanning a barcode not in the openfoodfacts db and making it a custom food, but it doesnt work unfortunately, the barcode doesnt stay linked. If i scan it again, it shows up as unknown.

Can you elaborate a bit more about what you mean by this? Like you the user would make the barcode or it just needs to handle barcodes that are not in the openfoodfacts database?

What i meant is the barcode stays linked to the custom food, even if the foods properties are changed.

Right now, if i were to scan a food (either in or not in the off db) and afterwards change its properties and then scan it again, it scans as a new food and has the properties of the off db food. My custom one "loses" the barcode.

If its not too complicated, i think it would be cool to be able for the custom food to keep the barcode, so that when i scan it again it loads my custom properies, not overriding them from the off db.

Change the calories and/or amount of protein, when i go into custom foods and then the edit pen.

Interesting, so what you’re saying is if you make a custom food from a barcode and then you change it and then you rescan the barcode stuff changes?

Yup, when i rescan the barcode it scans as the original food that is in the openfoodfacts db, or as Unknown if its not in the db.

I think it would be cool if it scanned as the changed food. So that if i want to add a barcode to a food that is not in the db, i can do so on my own instance of the app.

If im still not understandable, maybe i could record a video or something? Sorry if im not being clear enough.

I now completely understand why you couldn't understand me. I was just using a weird barcode that off db recognises as a food called "Unknown". So yes, i would just like it to be able to handle barcodes that are not in the database.
