To build a PEAR package you need the following pear packages installed:

- Phing, see www.phing.info
  Install with
    pear channel-discover pear.phing.info
    pear install phing/phing

- Phing_d51PearPkg2Task, see http://pear.domain51.com/index.php?package=Phing_d51PearPkg2Task
  Install with
    pear channel-discover pear.domain51.com
    pear install d51/Phing_d51PearPkg2Task-alpha

  After installing Phing_d51PearPkg2Task you need to upgrade the PEAR package
  file manager as the version installed with Phing_d51PearPkg2Task has a bug:
    pear upgrade --force PEAR_PackageFileManager
  Version of PEAR package file manager should be >= 1.6.3

If these requirements are met just type
    phing
and if everything works well you will find a newly build version in the build
directory.

To set the version number to be build just edit the VERSION file.


Troubleshooting while building the pear package

If you get an exception which reads like

'd51PearPkg2Task_Exception' with message 'unable to write package.xml file:
PEAR_PackageFileManager2 Error: Package validation failed:
Error: <notes> cannot be empty (<notes/>)

you most likely increased the version number in the VERSION file, but did not
add a new <changelog/> content block for this version number in the build.xml
file.
