Sprint 5 - Changing the intake from last Comps failure - Hasini and Thomas

GOALS FOR SPRINT 5:
The goal is to implement a new vertical intake such that it is more effective to pick a sample more effectively.

Objectives
After the last sprint in the competition, we noticed that the intake didn't work as effectively as we expected. Our team decided to make a new vertical intake or claw intake(depending on which is more effective) to pick up the sample.

Research section:

• 1. Research about the roller intake, the claw intake and the gear roller intake
• 2. Think on terms of which is more effective and check whether it can actually be implemented

Building section:

• 1. Start building the intake and make sure that the building is complete in terms of a full-functioning intake( This is during the first and second week of December)
• 2. Start coding the intake and make sure that the gears align properly when the intake rotates since that is a crucial part. (There might be a chance where we are only half done with the coding but, the coding section determines how fast we do the intake)

Today, Thomas and I were brainstorming ways to change the intake so that it would pick the samples from the chamber. We decided to make a vertical intake that would have a similar motion as the specimen grabber and would use a specimen grabber.

Today, Thomas and I started to build the intake. We first started off with using 4 gears to build the intake but the spacing was too much. So, we shifted to 2 gears. The gears often misaligned proving it to be ineffective.
Still to do:

• Still test out different gear dimensions to check which is more suitable
• Space it properly so that the specimen would pass through it

Today, Thomas and I modified the intake such that the gears were much larger so that it would be able to pick the sample. After that, we felt that the gears often misaligned so we designed another method to pick the sample which is by not using 2 rollers and instead just using one.

Today, Thomas and I started making the new intake model that was similar to the old model that used only one servo roller. The only difference was that the cardboard was placed opposite to it such that the intake would trap the sample and then roll it in.
Still to do:

• Cut the excess cardboard
• Possibly start coding it

Today, Thomas and I started with implementing the intake onto the robot. We tried different angles to implement the intake onto the arm of the robot. We found that the arm when positioning it sideways initially was too heavy so, we had to redo it.
Still to do:

• Choose a specific angle to implement the intake
• Possibly start coding it

Today, since Thomas wasn't there, I decided to help hamida with configuring the expansion hub. After that, I tested the intake to determine the functionability of the intake. Some of the phew drawbacks that I found regarding the intake where:

• The intake would would only work if parallel to the ground
• It has to smash onto the ground to be able to grab onto the sample
  As a result, this proved that the intake had to be modified a bit such that it is able to capture samples that are further away.

Things to do:

• Start finding a way to modify the intake such that it is always parallel to the ground
• find a strategy to use the intake.

Today, since Thomas wasn't there, I decided to help Kailyn drive the robot. The issue with the specimen grabber was that the point of contact with the specimen was too little, leading to less friction. This prevented it from hanging the specimen accurately.

The intake also had to be modified again to its original design since during the testing, it had to fit within the height limit to fit within the restraints which proved it's inability to reach the high bar.
Still to do:

• Rebuild the intake by starting from scratch

Today,Thomas and I decided to rediscuss about some intake ideas. Mr. Fabroa was also kind enough to help us with some ideas for the intake. Thomas and I decided to go about with either the claw intake or the gear intake. So, I started building the gear intake while thomas worked on the gear intake. After that, I was trying to figure out how to make the claw larger with the help of Hamida. The intake has also been preceded so that can be scratched off the objective list.

Today, Thomas and I worked on finishing the claw intake. At first, we found that the gears weren't meshing up so we figured that we had to make it tighter and more connected together. After making the intake, the coding section was similar to coding the specimen grabber but it wasn't implemented onto the intake (like we said earlier, the coding section depends on the intake development process). So, we tested the code instead on the specimen grabber and it worked. So, we believe that it might work on the intake grabber.

Sorry for the backlog for this log due to being in constant sick bedrest after school that day. Since thomas was absent, we decided to implement the vertical intake on the robot. At first, the intake was always falling backwards due to no barrier restriction so we decided to fix that. After that, I was helping Hamida who was using my laptop for the expansion hub configurations to figure out how to open the android tool from the instructions Hamida shared with me. Mr. Fabroa was really kind to help us to figure out why the control hub wasn't connection to the tool.

• Check the functionability of the intake
