SpruceOS is using very old versions of RetroArch and DOSBox-pure

Hi, I noticed the RetroArch version in SpruceOS is v1.19.0 from 2 years ago. And DOSBox-pure core is 0.13 from 5 years ago. Any particular reason? TrimUI's official SD base package patch has RetroArch v1.21.0, and muOS for example includes v1.22.2 along with DOSBox-pure v1.0.0.-preview4. The improvements in these are massive.

Hey, thanks for the report. Spruce 4.0 was cooking for close to a year, and I think these are some things that slipped through the cracks that were added early on for the TrimUI devices but not kept updated. We will look into updating these for the next release.

@pvaibhav can you please clarify 1) which device you are referring to, and 2) where you are seeing version 1.21? I only see up to 1.20 on TrimUI's github pages for both Brick and Smart Pro (non-S).

Spruce does have available RA version 1.22.2 if you select to disable the in-game menu from spruce's additional emulator settings option. We use the older versions by default because those include TrimUI's custom in-game menu, which many newbies find easier to use.

As far as DOSBox Pure, we have just updated it, so it will be available on spruce from the next nightly version onward.

Regarding RA v1.21.0 it’s a bit tricky but if you look at the Brick firmware update v1.1.0 you’ll notice in the release notes that RA was updated to v1.21.0 as a patch to the base package. But they never released a new base package. The “patch” is a zip file included with the firmware update v1.1.0. Inside it is the updated RA. I copied it to my stock SD card and it does have the menu too. So Spruce can move to 1.21.0 for that use case.

I've just added 1.21.0 for the Brick for the next release as well.
