As discussed today we can use actual Category type instead of String and Spring will try to de-serialize it automatically if we put jackson libs to classpath

test it manually via Postman with rest controller and classes (ResourceType, ResourceProperty, GenericResource, GenericResourceDTO, including List of these objects). Serializing and deserializing are working good. it wasn't working because of bad configuration of HttpMessageConverters.
Also jackson library require default constructor of your class and all getters and setters.

(to remember): if you want custom constructor to work, you need to put @JsonCreator annotation before constructor, and put @JsonProperty near all constructor parameters. In Java, method argument names are not present in compiled code. That's why Jackson can't generally use constructors (doesn't know the names of parameters and the order) to create a well defined object with everything already set.
