Offline capabiliy and general ressiliency

Signal intelligence happens in various locations and circumstances. In its current state, Intercept needs a connection to several servers (map tiles, fonts, JavaScript). This is all fine while those services are available. For this to be the case, I must have a connection to the internet and those services must be up and running. This might not always be the case.

To make this software more resilient and also useful in off grid and grid down situations, I propose the following improvements:

• serve web assets (fonts, CSS, JavaScrip) from locally.
• allow using a local map server (or provide one)

• never mind! Brain freeze. Need the actual maps + server.

To what resolution would we need the off-line maps?

Depending on required detail, they could be any size from very small ~100 MB to huge 100 GB.
So we should be able to pre-download only detailed map for our specified area. No idea how OSM does that.

Just my 2 cents on this: I use the following site to define and download specific maps for offline use with APRSDroid.

There's a lot of formats to choose from in the dropdown on the left.

Regarding dependencies, we should use package.json to configure and download the frontend libraries. After that, we won't need an internet connection for that part, as they will all be stored in our source code.
