Description
I propose a new feature: ship tracking via AIS (Automatic Identification System).
This feature would add an AIS decoding/viewing mode similar to the existing ADS-B aircraft tracking, but focused on maritime traffic. It could:
- Decode AIS signals from 161.975 and 162.025 MHz.
- Display live vessel positions on an interactive map similar to the ADS-B map.
- Show AIS fields like MMSI, callsign, vessel name, speed, course, and destination.
- Optionally show trails/history of recent positions.
- Have filters (callsign, name, type, speed, ...?).
- Export data.
There is already existing software that could be used for the backend, like AIS-catcher or rtl-ais.
Thank you!
