It so happened that we went through Minecraft with a friend, I was able to exit the end by watching the credits, and in my friend's case, at the moment when the portal teleports you to the overworld and there should be credits, the game crashes. We've checked on other worlds, it's the same. The other person simply cannot exit through the portal. 2. enter the end and kill the dragon, thereby activating the portal
