"Warning: no info dictionary found" – no TOC created?

Hi,

installed pdftoceditor from AUR I got the following warning:

$ pdftoceditor replace example.pdf example_toc.txt 
Warning: no info dictionary found
$

Afterwards ´example.pdf´ had no TOC.

(For the case the project is "dead" I can recommend "jPdfBookmarks" as alternative.)

Unfortunately not (copyright pdf).

Does pdftoceditor dump example.pdf work?

Using it with a simple 3 page example pdf it works. Using it with the 300+ page copyright pdf I get:

$ pdftoceditor dump rulebook.pdf

The last error indicates that there is no TOC in the original PDF. (I should improve the error reporting)

Can you also run pdfinfo example.pdf | grep Encrypted?

Your issue prompted me to put some work into this project to revamp it a bit. There is a new branch revamp which still needs some polishing but already offers a better CLI and better error handling. Now it is also possible to process some encrypted pdfs by passing the --password or --ask-password arguments.

You can install the updated version using:

uv tool install git+https://github.com/simgunz/pdftoceditor@revamp

Let me know if you can make it work or report the errors you get.
