Menu is really slow when using USB

The motherboard is Via ME6000G mini itx. I'm pretty sure the USB port I'm using is v1.1, so I know it will be slow to download, but my issue is the selection menu itself is really slow. It takes several seconds just to move the cursor and select another item. It has usb v2.0 ports, but for some reason those ports won't mount the drive.

Unfortunately with the current code for FDIMPLES, not much more can be done to improve performance on slow machines or when accessing slow drives.

For each entry in the list, FDIMPLES pulls together roughly a dozen data points which include reading multiple directories and files. It then consolidates this information to provide the information presented. It caches most of this information. But, there were some extreme memory limitation requirements regarding large package installation and the memory available for caching the data is tiny and almost useless.

The plan is that next major version of FDIMPLES will start new code base and include many improvements. One of the primary focus points will be overall performance. Another is the possibility of support for online repositories when DOS networking is configured.

Sadly, it will be a fairly long while before an all new versions is developed. I have several very large projects for FreeDOS which take priority.
