Import and Restore from Android 4 to Android 6 does not work #139

My daughter upgraded phones (old one is Galaxy Light with Android 4.2.2, new one is Galaxy S7 with Android 6) and installed Secrets fresh from Google Play - she got 2.4.5. We exported and also Backed up her secrets and copied them to the root of her SD card. Any attempt to import or restore fails. The Import gives an "uh oh ..." message and the Restore tells us basically that we entered the wrong password.

We are certainly using the right password - we went back and did another backup and another export.

Then I decided to try to backup my secrets (for restore later) and attempt to restore and import them to my phone. It worked on my phone (an LG G3 with Android 6 and Secrets 2.4.4).

Then I tried upgrading my LG G3 to Secrets 2.4.5 while her secrets were loaded - I copied both export and backup to her phone and no luck.

Now I have the wrong password file loaded in my phone and an attempt to restore from my backup file fails with the same problem. (Now I'm worried that I won't get my secretsback at all. I ended up sideloading an old 2.4.4 back onto the LG G3 and I am able to restore using my backup file. Whew!!)

So it appears that there is a problam moving secrets from Android 4 to Android 6.

Here are the configurations again:
Galaxy Light (the Source phone) - Android 4.2.2 Secrets 2.4.5
Galaxy S7 (the Target phone) - Android 6 Secrets 2.4.5
LG G3 (my phone) - Android 6 and Secrets 2.4.4 (upgraded to 2.4.5 and then back to 2.4.4)

I am especially surprised that neither hers nor my csv file worked either. Seemed the simplest approach.
