The scratch directory inside my storr cache has about 500Mb of files sitting in it. I assume based on the name that these are leftover temporary files from when some process got interrupted, and so they should be safe to delete. Is that correct?

Sorry @brendanf, I meant to help answer this one but lost track. Yes, I believe they are safe to delete. As far as I can tell from looking at the code base, storr API functions do not try to access these files. What I am wondering is why so much data accumulated there in the first place. Did you interrupt the storage process at some point? I wonder if on.exit(unlink(tmp), add = TRUE) belongs here and here.
