We should be trying OPENSTEP in parallel, with NeXTSTEP as the "upstream" with prime focus. Most of the time I think they will both behave the same.

We can put suffix '.42' before the filetype suffix when the file applies to 4.2.
When things get large and the diff proves to be small, we can keep a branch.
