Displaying the manifold as a picture?

For 2D manifolds and knots, I can't see how you can display them?

Surely it's not too difficult to display a picture of a knot or a picture, say, of a klein bottle or genus-3 surface?

I'm not sure if there is a good way to display 3-manifolds graphically though.
