Add a new, official non-Discord platform to talk in

GH is more for help and ideas, so it doesn't fit well. This should be hosted under IRC, XMPP (preferable in my opinion) or Matrix, with at least two of them being bridged, (in case it's hosted under IRC, other people can reach there easily)
Discord is, well, Discord. Preferably, it should be slowly dropped.

I am just curious about the real problem here...

Discord is what it is, but it's convenient for our 1000+ Member Red Eclipse community to manage it, fitting all our needs quite well for years. Any additional platform needs maintenance and some sort of moderation, and takes team resources away that should be better used for the project than just managing things around it, in my opinion.
We had a matrix bridge to Discord, and it was terrible, and no one really managed, with only one guy using it in Matrix.
I am assuming you are not based in China cause you are using git, and you can use Discord without danger for your personal well-being, right where you are located in the world, correct?
If so, just use Discord for chatting with people from the community, even if Discord is what it is. It's just like Steam; it works with less extra hassle than other solutions.

Btw. RE is built around IRC literally, and still has IRC in it, but since people don't use IRC anymore for the convenience of other solutions, we are no longer using it.

Nah, we got a lively 1000+ member community, dropping that means destroying years of building it and also moving them all to another place, even worse. Keeping what is working for the most amount of people is, in my opinion, the way to go.

There is also the issue of moderation of other platforms, as someone would need to be there too to check things, and personally i'd rather stick with discord, it's more convenient for me.
