Sounds good, but shouldn't it be a separate module ?

(as in, it'd make sense to use it without having the theme changed)

well, yes. but it's only front end code, so i'd have to do a bunch of work to make it into a module, and this seems like the easiest way to test it before submitting it to civicore (which is where it really should be). i'm gonna put up a blog post about it and see what people think..
