How to test a new sender?

Hi,
If a have a java program sending metrics to Prometheus using remote write, what are the steps to do it? The README in sender directory says "If you want to test a dev version of your sender, simply put your binary in bin/." I do not think that is clear enough. Which bin directory? What is name of the binary? How can a java program be used? What arguments are required and so on.
