Cannot find type definition file for pino-pretty while running npm run lint

I run command in teamcity step ci/cd npm run lint and got this error, node version is 16.13.2, os linux rhel 8

How can I fix this? I can't understand whats the problem?

I'm getting the same error when I run tsc

error TS2688: Cannot find type definition file for 'pino-pretty'.
The file is in the program because:
Entry point for implicit type library 'pino-pretty'

I think removing this from my tsconfig file fixed it for me.

I think the problem is that it can't find types in my node_modules folder for this library

Can you provide steps to reproduce? We often need a reproducible example, e.g. some code that allows someone else to recreate your problem by just copying and pasting it. If it involves more than a couple of different file, create a new repository on GitHub and add a link to that.

This is a TypeScript configuration issue, not a pino-pretty bug. The error Cannot find type definition file for 'pino-pretty' happens when TypeScript's typeRoots or type resolution includes node_modules directories that contain packages with a types field but no index.d.ts at the expected path.

The fix depends on your setup:

1. If you have typeRoots in tsconfig — make sure it doesn't include pino-pretty's directory. typeRoots should only point to type definition packages (like @types/*), not regular npm packages.

2. If pino-pretty is a dev dependency for CLI piping only — you don't need types at all. Add it to exclude or use skipLibCheck: true (which @stevenKirill already has).

3. Check your types compiler option — if set, TypeScript only loads types for the listed packages. Either add pino-pretty to the list or remove the types field to let TypeScript auto-discover:

The fact that pino-pretty ships with a types/index.d.ts in its package means TypeScript might try to resolve it as a type package. Setting skipLibCheck: true is the simplest fix.
