Inclusion of jokes in the code of conduct #3

The first harassment dot-point is about offensive comments. I think it should also include jokes. Jokes are often seen as humour rather than being an offensive comment and the joker will not see that their joke can make someone feel unsafe. (Joking implies a certain level of consent to the behaviour -- at least in a perpetrator and/or victim's eyes)

However, the dot-point includes both choices people make (OS, editor, language) and choices that are personal attributes (gender, size, race, sexual preference). I think it's worth splitting this dot point into two parts so that it becomes:

  • Offensive comments and jokes related to a person's gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, mental illness, neuro(a)typicality, physical appearance, body size, race, or religion.
  • Offensive comments and jokes related to a person's choice of operating system, programming language, or text editor.
