version 2.0.1-dev.110 Activity Runner crashes (parameter not valid)

hello!

i am trying to run the development version of FTS on Linux / WiNE, but without luck. When i hit "start" it crashes while loading the route:

looking at the log, i suspect it might be a font issue, maybe just missing a font??? (happens often with WINE)

it is the same environment which runs the release version of FTS pretty good (thanks for that, i really like it! :D)

unfortunately the log and call stack don't give enough informationan about the issue. There are no font changes between the versions. Does the Toolbox program (replacement for TrackViewer) run for you? It should have all the same font settings etc, so let's test that.

I just see that this is the DebugOverlay window ("Extended HUD for Debug" https://open-rails.readthedocs.io/en/latest/driving.html#extended-hud-for-debug-information) which seems to be enabled by default.
This window uses an "Arial" font family, maybe you can check for that font.

I'll also update the dev version to not open the DebugOverlay by default, but you may need to delete the current settings profile, or create a new profile at least, to have the new setting applied.

i do not stick to any particular version (release / development). for me i am happy if the route loads and i can view, what i have done :) in the release version the F5 (classic version) works, so i can see the train stats, but i do not play the game lately, only with content creation (3D graphics in Blender and then putting it into the game, and for now only static objects, no animation or other fancy stuff...)

it is from Norway. the Hungarian State Railway ("MAV") bought 20 of them in the 70s... :) we still have - i guess - 2 of them for nostalgic purposes :)

can you run Toolbox, and press F5 to get the debug overlay (doesn't need a route loaded)?

If that is working, in Toolbox open the Settings Window (F10), and change to the Graphics settings, and toogle between "Font Outline" states?

the error in the log is about collecting system information, I'll add some check there to prevent crashing if collecting systen information is not possible, that should not prevent runnig the application. Seems though there are some other components which Wine does not support, not sure what to do about them:

i played around a bit... :)
first i wanted to use a newer WINE. currently i use v7.17. i set up in a chroot() environment a newer WINE (v8.0). i copied over the prefix i use to run FTS. when i start menu.exe on WINE 8.0 i get a font error saying:

strange. the screenshot is from the release version, but it is the same for the development one. i was unable to fix that, so i went back to v7.17

now, in v7.17 WINE the ActivityRunner.exe runs again! :) pressing F5 does apparently nothing, but i have to press F5 once to be able to see SHIFT+F5 cycle through the debug info, but no text is rendered, only the graphs.
i managed to collect the WINE error log file, maybe there is something You can figure out from it:

according to the log, DXVK works to some degree, but there are errors... look for gdiplus errors.

given those issue rather point to missing support through Wine, I'm not sure to spend much further effort on that. This does not seem to be directly related to FTS functionality, but rather limitations in running Windows DX/Monogame applications on Linux.

The two fonts used are "Arial" and "Segoe UI"
