Akai APC mini?

Another question,

I intend to create a Hachi-device for the Akai APC mini. It looks fairly similar to a Behringer LC1 but with an 8x8 grid, and faders instead of encoders (and its fairly cheap 2ndhand ;)

  as a base?
• Is there a Hachi module already which works with just 2 rows of side-buttons?
• Any specific config i need? Do Hachi-modules have a device-specific config?

I've been intending to write a version designed for a classic Launchpad, with just the 2 rows of buttons. My plan was you'd use one row to select the "mode" of the other row, with one button to set it to function as each of the 4 sides of a Launchpad Pro. Then you could use the extra 4 buttons for extra useful things like start/stop or whatever.

I was also planning on focusing it on being able to run a single module rather than 8, to keep it simple, but it could work with 8. I'm not sure how annoying it'd be as a UI though.

In terms of writing a device for the APC, you'd basically want to write it so that it implements the Button and Pad functions parallel to the Launchpad. Hachi pretty much assumes the LP Pro layout, so it'd have to be written to pretend to be that, even though it doesn't have all the buttons.

In the LC1 code, you'll see the logic for mapping between the LP Pro-ish coordinates and what an LC1 actually offers. I think to take the approach of using the buttons of the APC to switch between row modes, you'd need to keep some internal state in the device object that knows which virtual row is actually active.

I hope that's enough to get you started. I may have enough time in a week or so to work it through in more detail -- the classic Launchpad and APC should be similar.
