It doesn't work, somewhere it is malformed, JavaScript just hangs:

Problems:
• http-equiv should be exactly "refresh" (not "refresh refresh").
• content should contain one directive: "0; url=..." (but we have it twice, concatenated).

"Alias" is needed when, for example, I am modifying URL path such as 3/2/8 into friendly/url/path, then in front matter I can have attribute like this one:

aliases:
- /3/2/8/

Hugo will automatically generate alias (redirect) file public/3/2/8/index.html, based upon "alias.html" template.

JavaScript does not play any role here; it is job of browsers (and internet robots) to understand tag <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0; url=https://example.com/friendly/url/path" />

It is not related to JavaScript.

In my specific case, Chrome just hangs because I had it malformed (doubled):

So I just overwrote this layouts/alias.html to make it work; it was faster to me, but probably would be better to fix it in theme instead.
