OTP 28 Support - Riak 4.0 Prototype

The next release of Riak, Riak 3.4.0 will support OTP 24 and OTP 26 only. There is no support in a formal release for higher OTP versions at present (December 2025).

The openriak-4.0 branch of Riak is now available, though. This is tested on OTP 28.3 as well as OTP 26, and is available for use for those wishing to experiment with later OTP releases, or for those looking to build potential new features for future releases.

The openriak-4.0 branches of Riak and Riak dependencies will be unstable and subject to change. This will include the removal of deprecated features as well as the introduction of new features.

Presently, when compared to openriak-3.4, the following features have already been removed:

• riak_ensemble, and support for strong consistency;
• riak_pipe, and support for Map/Reduce operations;
• v1.4 (legacy) counters;
• Link walking;
• The HyperLogLog data type;
• Support for dtrace.

Also, when compared to openriak-3.4, the following feature is not presently included:

• riak_repl, support for legacy replication.

There is an openriak-4.0 branch of riak_test available for proving new features and changes in the 4.0 branch. Currently, the Riak openriak-4.0 branch has been validated against the following test groups only:

• core_all;
• kv_all;
• admin_all;
• 2i_all;
• query_all;
• nextgenrepl.
